    Born Oct. 22, 1907, O'Brien County. Retired farmer, lifelong Granville are resident. Married Irene O'Mear Jan.2, 1934, Hawarden.

    Member Fraternal Order of Eagles.

    Paullina Man Killed in Car Crash

    Le Mars, Iowa -- Special:

    John Edward Graff, 31, of Paullina, Iowa, was killed, apparently early Sunday, when the car he was driving went out of control and crashed as it approached a curve on a country gravel road a fourth of a mile north of the Le Mars citypark.

    The auto wreckage was found at 7:30 a.m. Sunday by two members of the LeMars Police Department.

    Mr. Graff, who was driving north, apparently was thrown from the car in the accident, officers said. The automobile land on him, pinning him beneath it.

    The Plymouth County medial examiner said the mishap probably occurred between midnight Saturday and 7 a.m. sunday.

    Investigating officers were Plymouth County Sheriff James Mertes and Iowa Highway Patrolman Richard Helmers of LeMars.

    Mr. Graff was attending Northwestern College at Orance City, Iowa, and he was employed as a part-time bus driver for the Maurice-Orange City Consolidated School.

    Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Graff of Granville; four sisters, Mrs. Don Schiltz of Remsen, Iowa, Mrs. Gene Heying of Granville, Mrs. Ted DeVries of LaPorte City, Iowa, and Miss Julie Graff of Spencer, Iowa; and fivebrothers, Ken of Lake City, Iowa, Douglas of Omaha, Bruce of Des Moines, Gene, a student at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, and Milo Jr., at home.

    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Granville. The Rev. N.J. Becker will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    The Rosary will be said at 5, 8, 8:30, and 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at Spalding Hall at Granville.

    Two men who grew up together at Granville, Iowa, attended the same school and eventually moved to Omaha died over the weekend in a snowmobile accident.

    They were Douglas Graff, 32 and Robert Meis, 31. No one knows exactly what happened, as both had driven the snowmobile in the field where they died on the southwestern out-skirts of Omaha.

    The Douglas County Sheriff's office said the snowmobile plunged into a 75-foot ravine Friday night.

    Deputies said the two men neither of whom was wearing a helmet, suffered massive head injuries. The two apparently were thrown from the snowmobile.

    Graff was an insurance claims examiner and leaves a widow and three small children. Meis was an auto body painter and leave his widow.

    (It should be noted that these two men were brother-in-laws, as well. Doug was married to JoAnn Heitmann and Robert was married to Janice Heitmann. A service for both men, was held Dec. 24 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Granville,Iowa.)
