Notes:
  • He only had a third grade education, could not read or write He was employed by Tristate Telephone; Northwestern Bell for 47 years. He started as a water boy for the horses and later became a lineman. When he became a foreman he kept timeby symbols and his wife Transferred it to the sheets he turned in to the company.
He told the story and had an article written about his horse Charly. When they were stringing lines in southwestern Minnesota, he would climb a pole, set the line and whistle. Charly would pull the wagon down the road, paying the line outfrom the reel and stop and wait at the next pole. He would go down to it and start the proceedure over.
Even though he had a very limited education he was able to wire complex switch boards.
